Why Open Break Certification Matters

The world of card breaking has exploded over the past few years. From casual collectors to full-time streamers, breaking has become one of the most exciting ways to experience the hobby. But with growth comes growing pains — and one of the biggest challenges we face as a hobby is trust. If you came into VeeFriends with out any exposure to the sports card world, you might be unaware how fortunate we are to have so many breakers who act in their buyers’ best interests. Unfortunately, that doesn’t happen in every area of the collectables world.

Regardless, if you’ve ever joined a break, you might have wondered: “What’s happening off camera?” “How do I know I’ll get the big card?” or “How do I know pricing is based on what cards I could still pull?” The reality is, you typically have to go off of gut feelings and just hope.
And while some of those concerns may not have crossed everyone’s mind, the truth is that the lack of transparency has created an image problem for breakers in general.

That’s why we are working hard to create OBC: Open Break Certification.

Passion + Profit

Breaking should be about community, excitement, and the shared love of the hobby. The reality is that running a break does come with costs — fees, shipping, supplies, and sometimes paying a premium to even source the product. Breakers deserve to cover those costs and be compensated for their effort (because it takes an immense amount of time to provide this service), but it’s important to show that this isn’t about gouging the community — it’s about sustaining it. The vast majority of breakers in the VeeFriends community already price fairly. OBC simply helps buyers (new ones especially) to know who they can trust based on a consistent set of standards.

A Better Future for the Hobby

We know not everyone will jump on board right away. Transparency is a big shift, and some parts of the hobby will push back. But change always starts somewhere. By launching OBC as a part of ouramazing VeeFriends community, we’re building on the integrity and passion for the hobby that brought us into it in the first place and establishing a movement of breakers and collectors who believe in raising the bar.

This is more than a badge — it’s a promise. A promise that breaking can be fair, open, and still full of excitement. A promise that the hobby we love can thrive for years to come.
